Writing - Time

U3a Writers Challenge January 2025 Time By Helena Hewston. 261 words.

Time Stood Still on the hill overlooking the townships and countryside. He was waiting for Tide, who as usual tended to come and go to his own rhythm. He wanted a natter and Tide was a good listener.

Other Times Passed Him By and down below he could see the Soldiers of Time Marching Onward and a glimpse into the prison yard he could see those Doing Time. Overhead buzzed Temper Fugit.

“These people do not pay me much heed these days.” He muttered to himself. At which point Tide crept up with an admonition. “Look down there. I can see an ally way with graffetti “ Passage of Time” and look at that poet, she has Time On Her Hands and will use it to think . The children Wasting Time playing instead of learning and will one day become responsible and Slaves to Time, and they will know Time and Tide wait for no man.”

Time looked further “Umm, there is a careless woodcutter over there who will soon be Late according to his friends”
In the far distance the pair could see Times Past where a group of party goers had had a Jolly Good Time and which was now drifting into Memory Lane.

“We are a good pair,” you and I, “we have been here forever and will be here forever, in many forms, been Healers and Shapers and have our own Dance so let us Move On and have a chat with The Future.”
